Venus Mahadasha

Shukra Mahadasha · 20 years · the chapter of prosperity

✦ The chapter

A Mahadasha is a chapter of life ruled by one planet. Venus (Shukra) is love and refinement — relationships, beauty, comfort, art, and the ability to enjoy what you have.

Where Venus stands, you seek harmony and pleasure. A Venus chapter answers what you tend and make more beautiful.

A year inside it: a year of what you love — beauty, relationship, comfort, and taste being refined.

As a sub-chapterInside another planet's chapter, a Venus sub-chapter reads momentum. Negotiate compensation, strengthen alliances, take the client-facing stage.
✦ In working life

A Venus chapter brings comfort, alliances, and rewards through people and polish. Compensation and quality-of-life can improve markedly — if you ask.

The move it rewards: Negotiate compensation and environment. Build the alliances that smooth the path.

✦ The nine sub-chapters

Every Mahadasha is divided into nine sub-chapters (Antardasha), one for each planet, beginning with its own. Each length is fixed by the two planets' years.

Lengths by the classical rule: the chapter's years times the sub-chapter's years, divided by ten, gives the months; the remainder times three gives the days. The nine add up to exactly 20 years.

Common questions

How long does the Venus Mahadasha last?Twenty years, out of the 120 years of the Vimshottari cycle. It opens with its own sub-chapter, Venus–Venus, which runs 3 years 4 months, and closes with Venus–Ketu, which runs 1 year 2 months.

What comes after the Venus Mahadasha? The Sun Mahadasha, for 6 years. The order of the nine chapters never changes: Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, and then Ketu again.

Who begins life in a Venus Mahadasha?Anyone whose Moon stood in Bharani, Purva Phalguni or Purva Ashadha at birth, the three birth stars Venus rules. How much of the twenty years remained at birth depends on how far the Moon had travelled through that star, which is why the birth time sharpens the dates.
