Vedic astrology reads life in planetary chapters (the Vimshottari Dasha — a 120-year timeline anchored to the Moon's position at your birth). The order never changes; where you enter it does. It's a map of seasons, not a script — you still drive.
Ketu Mahadasha · 7 yearsA Ketu chapter settles things by release more than by effort. Venus Mahadasha · 20 yearsA Venus chapter answers what you tend and make more beautiful. Sun Mahadasha · 6 yearsA Sun chapter asks you to act like the person you already are, not the one waiting to be appointed. Moon Mahadasha · 10 yearsA Moon chapter asks for honest feeling and real rest; the answer that also lets you sleep is usually the right one. Mars Mahadasha · 7 yearsA Mars chapter rewards one clean, decisive step over three forceful ones. Rahu Mahadasha · 18 yearsA Rahu chapter has real appetite; the work is wanting clearly, and checking that the ladder leans on your own wall. Jupiter Mahadasha · 16 yearsA Jupiter chapter tends to prove the generous reading of a situation right. Saturn Mahadasha · 19 yearsA Saturn chapter is not stuck when it is slow; it is building. Let one thing take the time it actually takes. What is a Mahadasha?A chapter of life ruled by one planet. Vedic astrology reads life in planetary chapters, the Vimshottari Dasha, a 120-year timeline anchored to the Moon's position at your birth. Each chapter is divided into nine sub-chapters.
How is my Mahadasha calculated? From the birth star the Moon stood in when you were born. The planet that rules that star opens the first chapter, how far the Moon had travelled through the star decides how much of that chapter remained, and the nine chapters then follow in a fixed order.
How long is each Mahadasha? In years: Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17. Together they make 120.
Do I need my exact birth time?It sharpens the dates. Across one day the Moon crosses about a whole star, so without a time the chapter dates can shift by months, and for some birth dates the chapter itself depends on the hour. The calculator says so when that is the case.
